Conrad Holtzhausen

Hello πŸ‘‹... I am Conrad, a human living in South Africa. I guess if you read this, you would like to know a little about me, so here it is…

I have a career

Professionally, I have worn many hats. I began as a Web Designer and dabbled in some Graphic Design. Midway into my journey, I transitioned to Frontend Engineering and Development. I transitioned to the role of Engineering Manager . I've also unofficially worn the hats of Product Manager, Product Designer and UX researcher.

As a Software Engineer, I take a pragmatic approach to designing and building software. I always try to balance shipping the best we have today with an execution plan to evolve and iterate on later. I believe good engineering practices have always been vital, but even more with LLM agents around. I've been a tech lead on big initiatives and find great joy in being involved in projects end-to-end. I have built SaaS software for over .

As an Engineering Manager, I have overseen many different teams, and sometimes multiple teams at the same time. My outlook on managing is to trust by default. The engineers I manage were hired because they are good at their jobs. I have a bias towards trusting them and only address the outliers. It is important to always have fun. Play games (GeoGuessr, Gartic Phone, take your pick), get the team invested in the same goals and celebrate together.

My core values

I created my own, personal, set of Core Values in which I function every day. I periodically revisit these values, making sure I still adhere to them and that they are still relevant.

I have a personal life too, you know

I am a successful family man who loves his wife of and has 4 beautiful children. I don't claim to be perfect and am constantly growing as a person. But I enjoy life, am kind where I can be and ask myself the hard questions when I find it difficult. I believe in the power of reflection and soul searching.

Also, I love swimming. Which is what inspired the design of this website 🏊🏻.
